'Publish and be damned!'
«Печатай и пошёл к чёрту!» — ответ на любую угрозу, особенно шантаж или вымогательство, принуждение. Это был знаменитый ответ герцога Веллингтона парижскому издателю по имени Стокдэйл, который намеревался печатать мемуары Харриет Вильсон, лондонской куртизанки. Она не скрывала своих похождений и назвала герцога среди своих бывших любовников. В письме, датированном 16 декабря 1824 г., Стокдэйл дал понять герцогу, что за определённую сумму все упоминания о герцоге будут опущены. Говорят, что герцог набросал свой ответ прямо на письме Стокдэйла, и само письмо всё ещё хранится в Apsley House, лондонском доме герцога, теперь музее, но на тексте письма ничего нет.
